Medical Receptionist (24+HR/WK)

To act as the patient and optometrist contact regarding appointment scheduling, billing procedures,
out-of-pocket expenses and transportation requests.

STATUS                     2/3 Time (24-29 hours/wk)

ORGANIZATION        Reports to Site Manager


Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Schedule appointments for cataract examinations, cataract surgeries, post-operative examinations, YAG laser surgeries and medical appointments and surgeries.
  • Obtain patient demographic information including address, insurance, transportation needs, and referral source.
  • Counsel patients with questions and/or problems relating to insurance referrals and coverage.
  • After Insurance Eligibility Department provides information from patient’s insurance for procedures, call patient to advise them of benefits and any balance that may be due from patient. Arrange a payment schedule with the patient when necessary. Fill out a cash payment agreement if needed for patient’s appointments.
  • Provide knowledgeable, courteous assistance to optometrists and their staff members regarding surgery, referrals and billing procedures.


Must be available Monday – Thursday 7:45 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
*Schedule may vary according to patient schedule and clinic needs


  • Working computer knowledge – experienced in Microsoft Word
