Pre and Post-op RN (Part Time)

POSITION OBJECTIVE:  Assure that the PCLI philosophy of quality and caring treatment of patients and staff is implemented in all daily surgical activities.

STATUS:                Part Time (1 set surgery week/ 3 add days a month flexible)

ORGANIZATION:  Reports to Corporate Surgery Manager

BASIC FUNCTION:  To oversee and evaluate all activities of the pre-op/post-op area, known as TLC.  To provide a safe and comfortable environment for the smooth flow of patients throughout the admission, anesthesia, and discharge phases of their surgical experience.  To maintain effective communication within TLC, Surgery, and other departments of PCLI as necessary.


Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Admit patients to TLC.  Observe patient for potential difficulties that could occur during their surgical stay.  Allow family or friend to accompany patient if needed for added well being.  Provide for safekeeping of patient belongings.
  • Complete required paperwork for chart and provide instruction concerning the surgical procedure to patient and family.  Verify IOL calculation and procedure to be performed with information available on the patient’s chart.
  • Prepare patient and assist surgeon with surgeon visit if required.
  • Assist patient to and from anesthesia, monitor and observe and report any potential medical difficulties.
  • Provide discharge instruction to patient and/or family member or competent person with the patient.  Assure that patient’s condition is stable at discharge.
  • Administer necessary medications as ordered by surgeon or CRNA.
  • Assist TLC assistant and Host/Hostess as needed.  Observe that proper treatment is being administered.
  • Order supplies and medications as necessary and rotate supplies for expired items.
  • Notify surgeon of surgery start times and patient conditions as needed.
  • Responsible for monthly check of crash cart.
  • Be willing to travel for surgery to other PCLI sites as needed.


  • RN state licensure for the state(s) in which he/she practices

SCHEDULE Monday – Thursday 6 a.m. – 7 p.m.
*Schedule may vary according to patient schedule and clinic needs
**Full Time = 40 hours
